Somehow we knew this was coming: the American Church always responds to secular culture with some sort of *Christian* response. I am not surprised. Are you?

I’m not surprised at all. Your comment is very insightful. The only surprise is that is has taken so long to happen.
Have you taken a look around? What are your thoughts on the quality of the offerings?

There are some great videos from a Benedictine Monastery. Also some funny videos. On non-Catholic minister has a hilarious one giving a taste test of various kinds of hosts (unconsecrated that is).

I saw some descent ones from Oregon Right to Life, but did not see the Benedictine vids. I will check them out and perhaps post a few.
Thanks again.

Hit or miss with quality but if someone *big* comes along (such as Dobson or Colson or Grizzly) and begin to upload here, quality could go up. Again, the real question is viewer reach and dollars for advertisers or subscribers or donors. Truly, even YouTube and Google Video reach are so small at this time that I would have to ask: why bother uploading at GodTube at this time? The reach will grow at YouTube and, since the entry time is the same, I counsel spending time and attention at YouTube and others that are developing (Joost, etc.). I have seen these “Christian” versions come and go online for years now and I have found it’s best to stick with the *general* ones since that is where most of the market lives especially if you are a Catholic. Peace!

New copyright issue: stealing stuff from YouTube to upload to GodTube. Ah, the Web!

Great insights, Barbara. It seems that you are not interested in formalizing the Christian ghetto, or the Catholic ghetto for that matter.
I think your counsel is solid and insightful.

Evangelicals are far more interested in their “pop culture” ghetto than Catholics.
Christians on the Web: claim your place @ YouTube!

i see what yall are saying and i completely understand where youre coming from. however, i dont think that there’s always something wrong with seperation within the body of Christ. think about the church, for example– that is a seperation from the world, but it’s not considered to be a negative thing because 1.) it is God’s structure and 2.) Christians need a place to recharge and encourage/ be encouraged in the midst of taking the Gospel to the world. while I am not trying to insinuate that GodTube is on the same level as the Church, i think that GodTube could be viewed along the same lines in the sense that it serves as on online community for encouragement and equipment in sharing the Good News. for instance, hundreds of people in closed Muslim countries view and comment on the website daily– there have already been known conversions! people in china and other various countries also comprise those who hit the site daily. this is a huge accomplishment considering the Gospel cannot get into some of those countries by any other means.
i guess what im trying to say is this: while GodTube may not seem necessary considering sites such as YouTube are out there that can be used to accomplish similar things, GodTube provides an environment conducive to Christianity (no porn, cussing, etc.)that the aforementioned lacks. GodTube provides a center for believers around the world to share methods of evangelism and encourage each other in the faith. On top of that, it is a self-proclaimed Christian site which holds a testimony to any non-believer who may stumble upon the site to check it out. GodTube’s mission statement is: GodTube utilizes Web based technology to connect Christians for the purpose of encouraging and advancing the Gospel worldwide. When Christians are fully equipped with the Gospel and encouraged by others in the faith, they are more capable of approaching the world with the Good News.

correction: by seperation from the body of Christ i meant seperation on the part of the body of Christ from the world.

CF - very good insights. The tension here is one the church has always faced - how to be in the world but not of it. There needs to be both GodTube and christianns on YouTube. There does need to be a place of refuge but we cannot surrender our presence in all of the other media portals as well.
