Date: October 30, 2005Two podcasts in one day? What??? Well, as we kinda expected, the emails are flooding in regarding the Christian debate and how that term should be defined and applied. I really needed to put together this short Sarah's Corner podcast to make sure that our basis for stating that Mormons are not Christian is clear. Hopefully after listening, you'll agree that it has nothing to do with the use of the name 'Jesus Christ' or the purpose for which he was sent...Secondly, it's time that the show move on to other interesting topics and stories. We've spent a lot of time on this debate and I think we're all better for having talked about this difference.Everyone is welcome to continue this discussion, but please use our blog as the means to state your opinion. We appreciate the emails, but think that by keeping the thoughts, questions, responses, challenges, or whatever on the blog everyone can benefit. Thanks for staying with me on this one and I'm ready to move on to other topics...how 'bout it? Sarah

Date: October 23, 2005Finally, back-to-back weekends of new shows!!!Did anyone out there happen to watch Mtv's Real World New Orleans back in 2000? If so, you may recall one of the 'real people' - Julie. She was LDS and at the time, Sarah looked amazingly like Julie - to the point that people would actually stop us to make that very comment (maybe hoping for an autograph if it were true?) You be the judge...We hope you find this to be another great and thought provoking CMP as we continue the discussion on the meaning, form and authority required for a Baptism to be considered valid in the Catholic Church. Please be sure to check out Fr. Finelli's podcast iPadre which can be found HERESticking with the theme of Baptism and in an effort to invite you into our life a little more, Sarah and I thought you may be interested in actually seeing Sarah's Baptism into the Catholic Church. She was received in Easter 2002. This is a BIG FILE to download and I wouldn't even think of trying to watch it without a high speed internet connection, but I think most people these days should be OK. As I mentioned in the podcast, I have edited the full ceremony to only hit the high points and when Sarah is involved. Hope you enjoy!Watch Sarah's Baptism HEREFinally, we would like to thank everyone for voting for us at Podcast Alley and for staying subscribed. If you haven't voted for October, please do so...we're slipping! Thanks again and please post your thoughts on the blog and get those conversion / reversion stories in to us for November! Peace, --rob

Date: October 23, 2005This is a great show and we thank everyone for continuing to spend a little time with us. Please continue to post your thoughts and thanks for staying subscribed! In it, Sarah talks about becoming a saint and asks the question of whether or not you think certain people should have a fast track to sainthood - such as the case with Pope John Paul II.HERE is the link to a fellow CMP listener who mentioned the show (Thanks!)Below are the scripture references Rob did not read during the show from Eric:We pray to the Father in Jesus' name. This is evident when we begin our prayers with "Our Heavenly Father" or "Our Father in Heaven" and close in the name of Jesus. This doctrine is founded in scripture. Jesus taught "pray to thy father... after this manner... Our Father who art in Heaven." (See Matthew 6:6-9, 3 Nephi 13:6-9). Why do we pray to God, the Father, and close in the name of his son, Jesus? Because Jesus is the great mediator. Jesus said "I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me." (John 14:6.) Christ was the great exemplar and the first to be resurrected and exalted. He went before showing us the way to follow to obtain salvation. His mediating relationship is also evident from what the apostle John taught -- that "we have an advocate with the Father... Jesus Christ." (1 John 2:1) He knows each who come unto him. Said he: "I am the good shepherd, and know my sheep, and am known of mine." (John 10:14.) As our advocate he will at the last day judge us and present us before the father to plead our case that we did have faith in him and repent, keep his commandments, and were cleansed through his atoning blood. (See John 5: 22, Rom. 14: 10, 3 Ne. 27: 16.)And finally, here is the amazon link to the book The Hiding Place which was recommended by Sam

Date: October 16, 2005OK, so I'm going to get my feet wet with a roadcast. Needless to say, the audio quality isn't on par with our 'studio' at home, but I tried my best and will continue to look at alternative mobile recording solutions - that don't cost a lot of $$$.I won't be offended if you don't listen to this entire show, it's just a few of my thoughts from the road.

Date: October 11, 2005At the request of a listener, I share my experiences and thoughts on reversion (coming back, even though I never left) to the Catholic Church. Several topics including my childhood understanding of the mystery of the Trinity, how I felt when Sarah and I started going to church and some experiences while working with high school aged young adults are brought up in this episode. Thanks again to everyone for the letters of encouragement we have received over the past couple weeks and the votes we receive at Podcast Alley! Please let us know if you think a 'Rob Cast from the Road' is something you are willing to give a try. I can't tell you how many times I've said to myself that I wish I had a recorder to capture a thought or feeling I have at random times during the day. Please keep in your prayers those walking the long and winding road of religious exploration and especially those attending RCIA!
This month is the aniversary of the II Council of Nicea in 787. In this episode of Catholic: Under The Hood, I look back at that council, at some shocking parts of Church history, and why the council's decisions remain important for us today.

I also open a new segment of the show called "In The Icon Corner", looking at the famous icon of Our Lady of Vladimir. Plus there's a great song by Kevin Reeves called "Shine" which is available from the Podsafe Music Network.

You can find further information about the II Council of Nicea in the Catholic Encyclopedia and can find the documents of II Nicea in the Medieval Sourcebook.

If you are interested in getting a copy of the icon of Our Lady of Vladimir for your own private prayer. You can purchase one from the Saint Isaac of Syria Skete.

Cursillo has a phrase, "make a friend, be a friend, bring a friend to Christ". Only problem is too often we rush to the bring a friend to Christ, or more appropriatly, bring a friend to Cursillo.
In this high tech world, is so easy to think we're too busy to do anything about our holiness. But we are so wrong. We can use the tech toys as tools to holiness. Remember, holiness like formation is a process. We can find so many tools online to help us in this walk. One great tool that we have been invited to join is Disciples With Microphones.
Date: October 17, 2005I had the great opportunity to talk with Greg Willits, Greg and his wife Jennifer created the Rosary Army. Their podcast helped influence me to do this podcast. Then to top it off I find out that my favorite podcasters are also cursillistas. We chat with Greg about being a second generation cursillista, and how they live the tripod of formation, holiness and evangelization through their ministry, as they make them, pray them and give them away.
Date: October 13, 2005I've been dealing with a lot of "junk" lately. Job loss, the boys special needs, and the daily challenges of everyday life, sometimes we need to get back to the basics. One major basic is getting back into the Word. We're beginning a bible study of the book of Matthew on the Fourthday.org forum.

Our featured song comes from a friend, Sarah Bauer . It's the title track off her latest CD called Lead Me Home. It's great also owning CatholicJukebox.com, you meet so many great Catholic artists.

Our reading is 1Thes 5:12

Show 5 - Back to the basics
